Napoleon Hill worked as a writer in a magazine company. The company hired him to interview self-made people and know their success habits. The company got the meeting of Napoleon Hill fixed with Andrew Carnegie.

Let me tell those who do not know, Andrew Carnegie was very rich at that time. Everyone calls him America's first self-made billionaire.

When Napoleon Hill met Andrew Carnegie, he was very scared, and why not because on one side there was Andrew Carnegie who was a billionaire and on the other side was Napoleon Hill who belonged to a lower-middle-class family.

His interview was to go on for 1 hour but Andrew Carnegie liked that interview so much that the interview went on for 3 days. When the interview was over, Andrew Carnegie gave Napoleon Hill a task to meet with self-made rich people and find a formula, a formula that if anyone follows, becomes rich. 

At first, Napoleon Hill thought a lot about whether he should do research in this field or not but he finally agreed. For 20 years he interviewed more than 500 people and found 13 principles which, if anyone follows, can be successful and very rich.

Now I will tell you those 13 principles written in the book.

1st Principle - Desire

The first step that will make you rich is Desire, a Burning Desire. Desire is the starting point of all achievements. 

Everyone has the desire to earn money but everyone wants to become an overnight millionaire. There are very few people whose earning money is a burning desire and those whose earning money is a burning desire can earn a lot of money.

The author has told us 6 steps, if we repeat them daily with our whole heart, then we can create a burning desire inside us related to money. Those 6 steps are:

1. Fix in your mind the exact amount of money you desire. It is not sufficient merely to say “I want plenty of money.” Be definite as to the amount.
2. Determine exactly what you intend to give in return for the money you desire. (There is no such reality as “something for nothing.) 
3. Establish a definite date when you intend to possess the money you desire. 
4. Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire, and begin at once, whether you are ready or not, to put this plan into action. 
5. Write out a clear, concise statement of the amount of money you intend to acquire, name the time limit for its acquisition, state what you intend to give in return for the money, and describe clearly the plan through which you intend to accumulate it. 
6. Read your written statement aloud, twice daily, once just before retiring at night, and once after arising in the morning. AS YOU READ—SEE AND FEEL AND BELIEVE YOURSELF ALREADY IN POSSESSION OF THE MONEY.

"All achievement, no matter what may be its nature, or its purpose, must begin with an intense, BURNING DESIRE for something definite."

2nd Principle - Faith

Faith means you have to believe that no matter what happens, I will do this task. FAITH is a state of mind which may be induced, or created, by affirmation or repeated instructions to the subconscious mind, through the principle of auto-suggestion.

If I say that tomorrow you have to wake up at 4 in the morning and do exercise after getting up which will improve your health. Maximum people will not follow this thing because they will not have faith in it.

But if I tell you that, tomorrow you have to get up at 4:00 and if you get up at 4:00 then 1 Million $ will be transferred to your account. Now if you have faith in my words, then you will get up at 4 o'clock tomorrow and this is the power of faith.

If you want to achieve something and if you do not have faith in yourself, then no matter what happens, you will never achieve those things in your life.

"The emotions of Faith, Love, and Sex are the most powerful of all the major positive emotions."

3rd Principle - Auto Suggestion

Autosuggestion is the medium for influencing the subconscious mind. Autosuggestion is the connecting link between your conscious mind and your subconscious mind.

Basically here you have to say positive things related to your goals so that your desire and faith can be strong. The more you use the principle of auto suggestions, the more chances are that you will become successful. You will gradually become what you tell yourself.

"NO THOUGHT, whether it be negative or positive, CAN ENTER THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND WITHOUT THE AID OF THE PRINCIPLE OF AUTO-SUGGESTION."

4th Principle - Specialized Knowledge

There are two kinds of knowledge. One is general, the other is specialized. General knowledge, no matter how great in quantity or variety it may be, is of but little use in the accumulation of money. 

Specialized knowledge in a field is far better than acquiring a little bit of knowledge in different fields. Specialized knowledge will help you to grow in life whereas general knowledge is of no use if it is not organized properly.

"KNOWLEDGE will not attract money unless it is organized, and intelligently directed, through practical PLANS OF ACTION, to the DEFINITE END of accumulation of money."

5th Principle - Imagination

There are two types of imagination: Synthetic Imagination and Creative Imagination.

• Synthetic Imagination is that in which we are trying to achieve success by making old ideas new.
• Creative Imagination is that in which we create something which has never been created before.

In today's time, if you want to earn a lot of money, then you have to use your creative imagination. 'Zero To One' 'The Purple Cow' 'Blue Ocean Strategy' these are some books that have deeply explained about this topic.
